Family Services if GROWING!!!

Posted 04/09/2025

Family Services of Southeast Texas has been dedicated to strengthening families since 1931, providing 93 years of uninterrupted service. While our mission has evolved over time, since 1985 we have focused on supporting survivors of domestic violence, and in 2021, we expanded our services to include sexual assault survivors. In 2017, Hurricane Harvey caused devastating flooding to our shelter, but thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised over $2 million to restore it. Unfortunately, just three months after returning, Tropical Storm Imelda flooded the shelter again. After this, our Board made the decision not to rebuild in the same flood-prone area. Instead, we purchased land at 6730 Concord Road in Beaumont, and in 2024, construction began on our new shelter—a safer, larger space to continue providing vital services to those in need. The Family Services Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Shelter serves around 2,000 individuals each year from six Texas counties: Jefferson, Hardin, Orange, Newton, Jasper, and Tyler. Without our shelter, many women, men, and children would have no safe place to escape the torment of abuse. With domestic violence impacting 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men, this is an issue that will touch someone close to each of us at some point. That’s why Family Services is committed to ensuring these essential services are available. Building a new shelter isn’t just a Family Services issue—it’s a community issue, and we’re offering several ways for everyone to contribute. In addition to general donations, which can be made in any amount, our Brick and Tree of Hope Campaigns provide special opportunities for donors to honor or memorialize their loved ones. Each brick or tree symbolizes hope for survivors and serves as a lasting tribute to the families making a difference. Every dollar, no matter the amount, will go directly toward the construction of our new shelter, helping us continue to provide life-saving services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The current timeline for our new shelter to be complete and open is summer of 2025, and we can't be more excited! Please help us advocate for change and breaking the cycles of violence within our communities!
